Victoria-based artist Brandon Vickerd presented a recent series of sculpture which created a phenomenological paradox. Cast and constructed plaster skeletons were reassembled to represent fictional characters, bringing forth a conflict between the inherent need to project an identity upon these objects and the obvious falsity of the situation.

In the creation of plaster vertebrae, pelvises, leg bones, skulls and antlers, Vickerd refers to the common root element calcium in both bone and sculptural material. He implies that he may be playing God, with tongue firmly planted in cheek. "Actuality," he says, "is contrived and interchangeable. Truth has become a tale, the residue of an animal that has never been."

Vickerd gave a brief presentation during the opening reception.
