New Site Work by Jason Fitzpatrick
March 4 - 29

blue

In this exhibit, Jason Fitzpatrick presented a body of work that examined the relationship between sculpture and manual labour. The exhibition commenced with a two part action wherein Fitzpatrick moves a ton of sand from outside of the building, up a flight of stairs and into the gallery space. For the second half of the action the artist moved the sand from within the gallery back onto the street location. Fitzpatrick worked six hours a day for the course of the exhibition, preparing and eating his meals in the gallery. When the action was completed the gallery retained traces of the action including video documentation.

Fitzpatrick's interests lie in decentralizing the object in order to extend the experience of sculpture beyond the pictorial. Utilizing site dynamics and materials such as sand, wax, canvas, charcoal and copper in a process based intervention, Fitzpatrick exposes the process of building within the gallery framework.  top
