Daniel Laskarin | Anyway
June 24 - July 19
Anyway consists of a suite of exquisite plinths supporting sculptural
objects that have been constructed incidentally; their creation is analogous
to a verbal Freudian slip.
The exhibition also consists of UMBILICUS, a tiny video monitor
tethered to an excessive cable bundle that plays an endless loop of the
Tacoma Narrows Bridge moments before its collapse in 1940.
Laskarin, based in Victoria, BC, has been developing artistic works which
explore the juncture of cognitive sciences, phenomenology, popular culture/design,
and the visual arts. His work takes the form of a hybrid production, engaging
codes of sculpture, installation, and cinema. Materially his work manifests
a kind of play within the shifting gap between perception and knowledge
and between knowing and unknowing.
