A two-person show featuring the work of Elisabeth Belliveau and Nicole
Sanches. Elisabeth Belliveau creates readymade sculptures by transforming
used clothing into animal shapes, often pressed into box frames. Belliveau
is interested in the "animation of inanimate objects" that she
refers to as "cultural refuse", and how objects contain histories
of human use. In Chemical City Nicole Sanches presents two small installations
and three dioramas creating miniature city blocks, with test tubes and
gel caps representing the buildings, and Jawbreakers for planets. The
installations play with perception-within the nucleus the large is contained
in the small.
