This project is a multi-media performance incorporating film, video,
sound, and slide projection. The theme is a consideration of how the twentieth-century's
imagery of the future has now become an object of loss, nostalgia and
memory. The performance is a type of multi-layered cinematic presentation
where the performer is the projectionist. The project is inspired by a
reflection on how the institutional building type of the theatre or auditorium
resonates as a model of social organization. Dallett will develop a core
set of media elements that are inflected and adjusted to presentation
in different auditorium venues. The project involves a response to the
site where it is being presented - combining a process of site research
(into historical, spatial, phenomenological and associative aspects) with
a conceptual investigation of the positioning of the audience in the auditorium
space. The project is not only inspired by the forms and spaces of this
building, but incorporates it as the actual site of the work.
